Ingredients
-
1 fresh baguette, sliced into thin rounds
-
3 ripe Roma tomatoes, diced
-
1 small clove garlic, minced
-
4–5 fresh basil leaves, chopped
-
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
-
1 pack of provolone or mozzarella cheese slices
-
Halloween-shaped cookie cutters (ghost, bat, cat, pumpkin, crescent moon)
Utensils
Directions
Toast the bread:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet, drizzle lightly with olive oil, and bake for 7–8 minutes until golden.
Make the tomato topping:
In a small bowl, combine diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, and salt. Let sit for 10 minutes for the flavors to meld.
Assemble:
Spoon the tomato mixture onto each toasted baguette slice.
Cut the cheese slices using Halloween-shaped cutters and place them on top.
Melt (optional):
For a soft, slightly melted look, return to the oven for 1–2 minutes, just until the cheese starts to soften.
Recipe Note
Brush the bread with a bit of olive oil mixed with a pinch of garlic powder before baking for extra flavor.
